OUR HOUSE IN SAMOS

Renovating a neo-classical property in the Mediterranean

Can We Do It?

Ageing Diva or Hollywood Leading Lady

As soon as we stepped through the front door for the first time we both knew we would be buying this graceful but tired old pile. A neo classical house built in 1880  she had once perched on the edge of the hill dominating the view over the cultural and commercial centre of a thriving Samos town.

This Old Lady has an enduring noble elegance but with no maintenance of note in the past thirty or so years life has seen her fall from grace and become a shadow of her former self.

But armed with  lofty ambitions and buckets of naive enthusiasm  we are sure we can revive this star to former glory. But will we be thwarted by our only real impediment……………our laughably meagre budget?

Thirty Years of Neglect

With little maintenance for such a long time the inevitable consequences of weather damage revealed a way bigger task than we first realised.

Plenty of Original Architectural Features

Taking Our Project to the Next Level

The garden was an over grown chicken run where the local cats would deposit whatever cats deposit! Yuk!

But now its a two level area with defined living and eating ares.

See how we managed this.
